Coco Robicheaux, Louisiana Medicine Man (REVIEW - Living Blues)

Orleans OR2211

Louisiana Medicine Man moves around the musical map from Cajun rhythms and arrangements to tender ballads and blues selections, with the Pin Stripe Brass Band even stepping in on Weight of the World. New Orleans guitarist Coco Robicheaux flexes his vocals, which are sometimes gravelly (a comparison with Dr. John is unavoidable, particularly on the title track) and other times deep and slick (Love of a Woman) on this set of original songs. A rough-edged, refreshing album.
